Libre Office
Came from OpenOffice.org which in turn came from Star Office from Sun Microsystems
I choose Lazarus, but you may choose anything.
I just happen to have worked mostly in BASH.
Most of the new established Linux distributions are very good. (Either based on RedHat or Debian distros)
All I can say is: Some are easier to work with and some use less memory... :^)
